Summary: Laughter and humour in the Workplace Specialist, Laughter and health specialist and education humour consultant.
Personal statement:
Since leaving the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts in 2002 Stephanie has been involved in variety of humour and laughter projects, from performing stand-up comedy to writing (BBC Radio sketches), organizing events and comedy sketches
Stephanie has always understood there is more to comedy and laughter than just performing for audiences. When she left LIPA she worked in developing a comedy course for young people in schools. This looks at how comedy can help with confidence, reading and writing and a variety of other skills. Understanding the powerful tool of comedy, humour and laughter, Stephanie wanted to widen her skills. In 2004 she trained as a Laughter leader. Whilst practicing this technique Stephanie began adapting it to her own unique style, understanding the health, therapeutic and cognitive thinking that laughter promotes and involving skills learnt as a comedian, her laughter workshops and speaking about laughter began to grow.
Since training as a laughter specialist and with ongoing training (trained in 2006 with Patch Adams 1 week health care intensive programme) Stephanie has become regarded as an expert on the subject leading to producing practical workshops and publicly speaking to such companies and organisations as:
Liverpool’s Mossley-Hill Primary Care Trust, Liverpool Culture Company, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Is Laughter the Best medicine 2006 conference Liverpool, are just some of the local organisations Stephanie has shared her practice with. Recently Stephanie was asked to write and present the first ever humour in the workplace module affiliated to Chester University. Also Stephanie has spoken about Laughter on BBC radio 4, Radio 5 Live, Granada Reports, and local media stations. Due to her increasingly popular presentations which have interested the media, most recently Stephanie was asked to be the Laughter Expert on the Trisha Goddard show on Channel 5. http://www.mydeo.com/videorequest.asp?XID=42006&CID=59275. This is not the first time Stephanie has been asked to share her knowledge as an expert on television, she has also given advice on, The Heaven and Earth Show (BBC), The Trouble with teenagers (BBC3) and The bank of Mum and Dad (ITV1) are just some of the other TV shows Stephanie has been asked to be the expert on.
